This release note describes patch SG0001694 to IRIX 6.3.

       Patch SG0001694 replaces patches SG0001779 and SG0001905.

       1.1 _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__H_a_r_d_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s

This patch contains bug fixes for O2 systems with the R5000
and R10000 processor. The software cannot be installed on
       other configurations.

       1.2 _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s

This patch contains bug fixes for IRIX 6.3 (version
1253422538) systems in the following areas: the Digital
       Media Execution environment (version 1253422532),
configuration files for the Desktop (version 1253422520),
and configuration files for the Media Warehouse (version
       1253326420).

You must also have patch SG0001795 (O2 OpenGL) and patch
SG0001976 (O2 Kernel Graphics Driver), or replacement
versions of these two patches, installed along with this
       patch (SG0001694).

The software cannot be installed on other configurations.

       1.3 _B_u_g_s__F_i_x_e_d__b_y__P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_1_6_9_4

This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
6.3. Bug numbers from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system
       are included for reference.

+o Plug-in effects library was unnecessarily maintaining a
            ICE context. (Bug #481072)

+o Audio on movies with scaled edits was bad. (Bug
            #332051)

+o AVI Movies (headers and audio) are sometimes created
            wrong. (Bug #456073, #487440)

+o ICE now can encode/decode movies with a height of 486
            pixels. (Bug #483792)

+o ICE JPEG color space conversion code produces CCR601
            (nominal) values. (Bug #467089)

                                  - 2 -

+o The SGI movie library mishandles "empty edits" and
            gaps. (Bug #447642)

+o ICE JPEG microcode decodes some images incorrectly.
            (Bug #479932)

+o fxbuilder sometimes doesn't handle movie aspect ratios
            properly. (Bug #425295)

+o The SGI movie library playback engine now supports
playback to video out. (Bug #396874)

+o There are several OpenGL tuned Premiere transition and
filter plug-ins provided in this patch. (no bug #)

+o The SGI movie library now supports the QuickTime
MJPEG-A format. New versions of dmplay, dmconvert, and
mediaconvert which support MJPEG-A are provided in this
            patch. (Bug #475569)

+o Miscellaneous Digital Media bug fixes in support of
            Adobe Premiere. (Bug #450878)

+o Media Warehouse and the Desktop Previewer component now
recognize PhotoCD, SoftImage, Alias/Wavefront, and AVI
            files. (Bug #453118)

+o Added mvOpenFD to list of exported functions in
moviefile.exports. (Bug #464499, originally fixed in
            patch SG0001905)

+o There is a race condition in libmoviefile.so that can
cause movie playback in mediaplayer (movieplayer) or
other apps to stop, hang, or crash. Often, in
mediaplayer a dialog displaying "Play Error: Nothing
Rendered" appears right before the hang or crash. This
incident has also been reported in SGI Bugs #445888,
#446330, and #455702 as well as customer case number
#717777. (Bug #441197, originally fixed in patch
            SG0001779)

Because you want to install only the patches for problems
you have encountered, patch software is not installed by
default. After reading the descriptions of the bugs fixed
in this patch (see Section 1.3), determine the patches that
       meet your specific needs.

If, after reading Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of these release
notes, you are unsure whether your hardware and software
meet the requirements for installing a particular patch, run
_i_n_s_t. The _i_n_s_t program does not allow you to install
patches that are incompatible with your hardware or
       software.

Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
software product. Follow the instructions in your _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
_I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot
form of the software installation tools.

Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

         1. At the Inst> prompt, type

             iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll ppppaaaattttcccchhhhSSSSGGGG_x_x_x_x_x_x_x

where _x_x_x_x_x_x_x is the patch number.

         2. Initiate the installation sequence. Type

             IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> ggggoooo

         3. You may find that two patches have been marked as
incompatible. (The installation tools reject an
installation request if an incompatibility is
detected.) If this occurs, you must deselect one of
             the patches.

         4. After completing the installation process, exit the
             _i_n_s_t program by typing

To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
would for any other software subsystem. The removal process
