Effects Menu:

Use the Effects menu commands to add special effects, smoothing, and sharpening to your image. Some Effects commands, such as Colorize, use the current color to produce the effect. Before you use these commands, be sure to select the color you want. Remember that you can use the Preview and BeforeAfter commands in the View menu to see the results of your effects.

Colorize:

The Colorize command uses the current color to give the image a tinted monochrome effect. Colorize converts the image color data to the current color to create the effect. 


1. Select Colorize from the Effects menu.


2. To choose a different color for the effect, click MB1 in the color swatch in the dialog box..


Alias Eclipse displays an Effect Color window.


3. Click MB1 in the color window to select a new color, or use the sliders or text boxes to mix or select a color. You can also select the Pick button in the color window and then pick a color from your image. 


Alias Eclipse colorizes the image with the new color.


4. To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the Colorize dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether you are using dot percentage or system color ranges.


5. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.


Alias Eclipse displays a warning box that asks if you are sure you want to apply the effect.


6. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


7. When you are done with the Colorize dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.


8. If necessary, repeat step 7 to close the Effect Color window.

ColorNeg:

The ColorNeg command produces a color negative effect for the image. ColorNeg converts the image color data to negative color data.


1. Select ColorNeg from the Effects menu.


Alias Eclipse makes a color negative of your image and displays a dialog box with a slider, a text box, and an Apply button.


2. To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether youre using dot percentage or system color ranges.


3. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.


Alias Eclipse displays a warning box that asks if you are sure you want to apply the effect.


4. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


5. When you are done with the Color Negative dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

Emboss:

The Emboss command produces a "raised" or relief effect for the image. You can choose monochrome or tinted embossing. To use the command, follow these steps:


1. Select Emboss from the Effects menu.


Alias Eclipse displays a dialog box with a Tint color swatch, Mono and Tint push buttons, two Offset text boxes, and an Apply button. 


2. Select either the Mono and Tint push buttons to choose the type of embossing.


3. If you selected Tint, click MB1 in the color swatch.


Alias Eclipse displays an Effect Color window.


3. Click MB1 in the color window to select a color, or use the sliders or text boxes to mix or select a color.


4. Type values in the Offset X and Offset Y text boxes to set the horizontal and vertical width and height (in pixels) of the emboss effect. The greater these values, the more relief effect you see in the image.


5. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.

6. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


7. When you are done with the Emboss dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.


8. If necessary, repeat step 7 to close the Effect Color window.

HSL:

Use the HSL command to change the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness of an RGB image. The command displays a dialog box that you use to select the color to work on and sliders and text boxes to adjust the color values.


The HSL command does not work on CMYK images.


The HSL dialog box includes a two-part color swatch of the current color. The top half of the swatch is the From Color; the bottom half is the To Color.


There are three pairs of sliders, one each for Hue, Saturation, and Lightness. The top slider in each pair represents the From Color; the bottom slider represents the To Color. Each slider also has a corresponding text box.


1. Select HSL from the Effects menu.


2. To pick a color from your image to work on, select the top color swatch.


Alias Eclipse displays a Color window.


3. Select the Pick button in the the Color window.


4. Use the cursor to select a color in your image.


The top half of the color swatch displays the color you picked.


5. Select one of the Hue Shift push buttons. These buttons control how Alias Eclipse distributes any changes you make:


Absolute - Select Absolute to change all colors to the same To Color.


Relative - Select Relative to maintain hue differences in the image.


6. Use either method below to change the HSL properties:


a. Click and drag the sliders for a property (if you click and drag a From Color slider, both sliders move).


b. Type a value in the text boxes next to the sliders and press Enter.


The color swatch reflects the color changes as you make them.


7. To start over, click the Reset button.


Alias Eclipse resets the color swatch, sliders, and text boxes to their original values.


8. To apply the effect to the image, click the Apply button.


Alias Eclipse applies the effect.

Monochrome:

The Monochrome command converts a color image to black and white.


1. Select Monochrome from the Effects menu.


Alias Eclipse converts your image to monochrome and displays a dialog box with a slider, a text box, and an Apply button.


2. To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether youre using dot percentage or system color ranges.


3. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.

4. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


5. When you are done with the Monochrome dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

MonoNeg:

Use the MonoNeg command to convert an image to a monochrome negative.


1. Select MonoNeg from the Effects menu.


Alias Eclipse converts your image to a monochrome negative and displays a dialog box with a slider and text box and an Apply button.


2. To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether youre using dot percentage or system color ranges.


3. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.

5. When you are done with the MonoNeg dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

Noise:

The Noise command produces a mezzotint, or grainy, effect in your image. You can select the amount of noise to add. The more noise you choose, the greater the effect on the image.


1. Select Noise from the Effects menu.


Alias Eclipse adds noise to your image and displays a dialog box with a slider and text box and an Apply button.


2. To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether youre using dot percentage or system color ranges.


3. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.

4. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


5. When you are done with the Noise dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

Pixelize:

The Pixelize command produces a "large pixel" or "fat bits" effect, making the image look "computerized." You can select the degree of the effect; the higher the setting the larger the pixels or fatter the bits.


1. Select Pixelize from the Effects menu.

2. To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether you're using dot percentage or system color ranges.


3. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.

4. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


5. When you are done with the Pixelize dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

Posterize:

The Posterize command creates a "paint by numbers" effect in the image by mapping the palette of 16.7 million colors to a palette with fewer colors. The higher the value you select for the effect, the fewer colors Alias Eclipse uses.


1. Select Posterize from the Effects menu.


Alias Eclipse posterizes your image and displays a dialog box with a slider and text box and an Apply button.


2.  To adjust the intensity of the effect, use the slider in the dialog box, or type a value in the text box. Effect values can range from 0 to 100 or 255, depending on whether you're using dot percentage or system color ranges.


3. To apply the effect to the image, select the Apply button.


Alias Eclipse displays a warning box that asks if you're sure you want to apply the effect.


4. Select Yes to apply the effect or No to cancel the Apply.


5. When you're done with the Posterize dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

Sharpen:

Use Sharpen to sharpen your image. You can Sharpen any combination of layers. Click the Apply buttons to select the layers you want to work with.


1. Select Sharpen from the Effects menu.

5. When you are done with the Sharpen dialog box, select the control menu in the upper left corner and then select Close.

Smooth:

Use Smooth to smooth your image. You can Smooth any combination of layers. Click on the Apply buttons to select the layers that you want to work with.


1. Select Smooth from the Effects menu.
