INPUT CLIPS
Background Clip: background image over which the flames will be
composited.
Birth Clip: matte image. Flames will only be created within
non-black areas of this image.
TIME EDITOR CONTROLS
CREATION
PreRoll Frames (Min: 1.0 Max: 1000.0 Default: 50.0)
How many frames to run the flame simulation, before rendering the first
output frame. This allows the flames to build up without waiting for
each frame to render.
Density (Min: 0.0 Max: 10000.0 Default: 800.0)
Number of flame particles created per frame. This determines the overall final
density of the flames.
Hearth lifetime (Min: 1.0 Max: 1000.0 Default: 8.0)
Number of frames from birth in the life of a flame particle in which it
is considered to be 'in the hearth'. Such particles are rendered and
moved differently to flame particles that have left the hearth. Flames
begin in the hearth, then move to free flames, then turn
into smoke.
Flame lifetime (Min: 0.0 Max: 2000.0 Default: 20.0)
Number of frames in the life of a flame particle in which it is considered
to be freely moving in a flame. Such particles are given a particular
rendering treatment.
Smoke lifetime (Min: 1.0 Max: 1000.0 Default: 40.0)
Number of frames in the life of a flame particle in which it is considered to
be smoke. Again, these are treated in an appropriate way.
POSITION
Radius (Min: 0.0 Max: 500.00 Default: 2.8)
Variation in position about the flame generation line within which flame
particles will be created.
XY Left (Default: bottom left)
XY Right (Default: bottom right)
Co-ordinates of the flame generation line. Particles are bourn along this line
within the radius specified. If the Birth matte clip is used then this generation
line and surrounding region should cover the area of interest within the
birth clip.
FORCES
HEAT
Initial (Min: -80.0 Max: 80.0 Default: 8.0)
Controls the speed at which the flame particles set out from the
flame generation line.
Acceleration (Min: -80.0 Max: 80.0 Default: 1.0)
How quickly the flames accelerate in the given direction.
Angle (Min: 0.00 Max: 360.0 Default: 90.0)
Direction in which flames start moving. It is measured in degrees clockwise
with zero at due east.
Velocity Variance (Min: 0.0 Max: 200.0 Default: 100.0)
Variability in the initial velocity.
GRAVITY
Angle (Min: 0.0 Max: 359.0 Default: 270.0)
Angle (in degrees clockwise measured from zero at due East) at which
gravity acts.
Strength (Min: 0.0 Max: 1000.0 Default: 0.1)
Acceleration due to gravity acting on the flame particles.
WIND
Wind Speed (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 0.0)
The wind speed.
XY Target (Default: center)
XY Source (Default: below center left)
Co-ordinates of a point on the image to which the wind is blowing and
where it is blowing from.
Spread (Min: 0.0 Max: 180.0 Default: 120.0)
Angle of a cone centred on the wind direction within which the wind acts.
It is measured in degrees.
SWIRL
Density (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 28.8)
How many bumps in the atmosphere a flame particle will run into across the width of a
frame.
Amplitude (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 3.2)
Strength of the atmospheric bumps.
To Maximum (Min: 0.0 Max: 500.0 Default: 25.0)
Time a flame particle lives for before it feels the full influence of
atmospheric bumps.
Friction (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 1.0)
Controls how quickly the flame particles lose their velocity. They start
off with a velocity controlled by initial Heat. On the other hand, heat
acceleration and turbulence (swirl) are continually imparting velocity
to them.
FLAME DEVELOPMENT
Each particle of a flame has three seasons in its life
HEARTH PHASE
Colour Red Green Blue (Default: red)
Coloor of the flame particles while they are in the hearth. Actually, when
they are first created. Their colour changes to the flame colour as time
goes on in a way controlled by the Hearth lifetime and
To Flame rate controls.
ColourVariance (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 0.0)
Variability in the colour of flame particles in the hearth.
FLAME PHASE
Colour Red Green Blue (Default: yellow)
Colour of the flame particles.
Colour Variance (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 0.0)
Variability in the colour of flame particles.
To Flame (Min: 0.01 Max: 10.0 Default: 5.0)
Biases the speed at which the colour of a developing flame particle changes
from hearth colour to flame colour. The higher it is, the quicker this
transition occurs.
Length (Min: 0.01 Max: 50.0 Default: 5.0)
Controls how 'long' or 'tongue-like' the flames are in the non-smoke phases.
SMOKE PHASE
Colour Red Green Blue (Default: grey)
Colour of the smoke particles.
Colour Variance (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 0.0)
Variability in the colour of smoke particles.
To Smoke (Min: 0.01 Max: 100.0 Default: 5.0)
Biases the speed at which the colour of a developing flame particle changes
from flame colour to smoke colour.
Billow (Min: 0.05 Max: 10.0 Default: 2.5)
Controls how rounded the motion of the flame particles become when they turn
to smoke.
Amplitude (Min 0.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 1.0)
Controls how large the billowing motion of the smoke is to be.
PI CONTROLS
restart
Restart the flame simulation, destroying all current flame particles first.
preroll
Run the particle system for the specified number of pre-roll frames before generating
the first frame of the output clip.
RENDER PREROLL
This MUST be turned ON prior to rendering a sequence if you need the preroll effect.
Rendering starts a completely new flame system; it cannot
continue from where you currently are.
birth limits (Default: Off)
On: use the birth matte clip. Flames will only be born in the intersection
of the flame generation line and non-black areas of the birth matte images.
PRESET FLAME EFFECTS
demo Fire 1: set all parameters for the first fire type.
move 1: set the flame motion and development control parameters to a
sensible set of defaults. This does not change the rendering control parameters.
demo 2: set all parameters for another style of fire.
move 2: sets all motion and development parameters for another
sort of flame movement.
