INPUT CLIP
Clip to Observe: The image to be viewed through the simulated
kaleidoscope.
The effect uses an hexagonal lattice, with reflections of the input image appearing as images in the triangles formed by joining the center of each hexagon to each of its defining vertices. There are many options. You can think of this effect as simulating a traditional optical kaleidoscope, mounted so it is looking down at a turntable on which the image to be processed rests. A camera is looking down the eyepiece of the kaleidoscope. With this arrangement, you can get interesting animating effects by:
You also have control in the software version of the size of the 'optical elements' and you can do other things not possible or applicable in a real kaleidoscope:
ARRAY
Hexagon Radius (Min: 5.0 Max: 500.0 Default: 35.0)
'Radius' of each hexagon in the lattice.
Rotate (Min: -180.0 Max: 180.0 Default: 0.0)
Rotation of the `tube' of the kaleidoscope in degrees.
XY Offset (Default: centered)
XY offset of the lattice with respect to the center of the output image
(optical axis). Measured in units of the current hexagon radius.
Latice Extent(Min: 0.100 Max: 10.000 Default: 1.0)
Controls the extent of the lattice as scale of the initial extent.
You will probably never need to touch this! Only needed if the selected values
of the other controls produce unwanted black triangles.
IMAGE
Rotate (Min: -360.0 Max: 360.0 Default: 0.0)
Rotation of the turntable on which the image is lying, in degrees.
XY Center (Default: image center)
XY co-ordinates of the point on the input image that is at the center of
the turntable.
Scale (Min: 1.0 Max: 10000.0 Default: 100.0)
Pre-scaling of the image about the Image XY Center.
Bulge (Min: -1000.000 Max: 100.000 Default: 0.0)
When adjusted from zero, makes each triangular element in the kaleidoscope bulge out or
pinch in the image about its (the triangular elements) center.
Extreme warps are possible.
Set to zero to turn off distortion.
CAMERA
Rotate (Min: -360.0 Max: 360.0 Default: 0.0)
Rotation of the camera about the line of sight in degrees.
XY Rotation Origin (Default: center)
Center (on the output image) about which the camera is to rotate.
DEFECTS
Vignette Go (Min: 0.0 Max: 500.0 Default: 0.0)
Distance from the center of the output image at which vignetting will begin.
The image will keep its full intensity inside this radius. Set to zero to turn off
vignetting.
Vignette End (Min: 0.0 Max: 500.0 Default: 65.0)
Distance from the center of the output image at which vignetting will end. The
image will be black outside this radius. Set to zero to turn off vignetting.
Desaturation (Min: 0.0 Max: 100.000 Default: 0.0)
Desaturates the image close to the edge of each triangular element if not zero.
One hundred percent gives complete monochrome at the element boundaries.
Set to zero to turn off desaturation.
Desaturation Wide (Min: 1.0 Max: 100.0 Default: 10.0)
Distance from the element boundaries over which desaturation will occur.
Fill Mode (Default: Edge Duplication)
Controls how areas of the output image are filled by areas of the
input image which does not exist i.e. the required area is outside the input image.
Edge Duplication=0: repeats the contents of the nearest edge of the input image.
Black=1: fills input image regions with black.
Wrap=2: treats the input image as an infinite repeat tiling, so regions that would be
just off the left hand edge get mapped to just in the right hand edge for example.
