Exercise 9: USING THE TURBULENCE CLIP

example turbulence image

  1. for the next input clip chose the sequence you want to control the flow of the particles. The intensity of the image will affect in which direction and in what manner the particles move.
  2. to see what is going on with this effect it is wise to turn off as many other forces as possible. Make sure the following are not active either by switching off in the PI or setting the relevant parameters to 0.0
    • Gravity
    • Swirl
    • Wind
    • Sink
    • Friction
    • clip control birth
    • clip control bounce
  3. set the birth position to be in the middle of the image and the radius big enough to cover the image
  4. set the intial Velocity Strength to 3.0
  5. with about 80.0 for the Magnification Variance
  6. and the Directional Variance to 100.0
  7. this gives each particle born a little random movement in any direction. The Turbulence clip will then take over dragging the particles where it wants to.
  8. turn on clip control turbulence in the PI
  9. leave the turbulence type set at direction
  10. KILL ALL PARTICLES.
  11. play the sequence.
  12. increase Flow Magnification and play again
  13. change Directional Magnification and play again
  14. increasing the Flow Magnification will exaggerate the movement and changing Direction Magnification alters the general direction of the flow
There are 3 styles of turbulence flow; Attraction, Direction and Accumulation:
