Setting Up Distributed Rendering with mental ray

One of the most advanced features of the mental ray rendering software is its ability to run concurrently over a network of machines, which significantly increases rendering speed. To use the mental ray rendering software on a network, you need to have the following items:

·      A mental ray license for each machine (or in the case of multi-processor machines, each processor) to be used on the network

·      Rayserver service installed and running (Windows only)

·      Modifications to each machine’s services:

- Windows: c:\Winnt40\system32\drivers\etc\services (the Setup program automatically configures the file)

- IRIX and Linux: /etc/services and /usr/etc/inetd.conf files (this is the equivalent of the Windows rayserver service)

·      A .rayhosts file in your home account.
