A FLEXlm client is defined as a computer relying on the FLEXlm server on the same network to give it the necessary licenses to run your Softimage product. Thus, a FLEXlm client may be on the same computer as the one defined as the FLEXlm server, or on a computer communicating through a port to the server on the same network.
To install as a FLEXlm client, you need only to specify the exact FLEXlm server name(s) when you set up the environment and port number. Once you have entered a server name, the following information is created:
· An LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable is added to Control Panel > System (Windows) or the setenv.csh file (IRIX and Linux).
· The server is connected using the following syntax: <port#>@<machine name>
Entering Names of One or More Servers
1. Specify the port number for FLEXlm communication (should correspond to the port number defined in the license file).
2. Enter the correct name of the machine in the text box after the @ symbol.
3. Click the Test button to verify:
· the license server name
· if you can establish a network connection with the server
· if you can perform a license check-out test
A message appears for each failed operation or to confirm that the license checkout was successful.
4. If you want to enter additional server names, click Add. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
5. When you have added all the servers, click OK to continue with the Setup program.
Note: If you click OK without setting a value, the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable is set but left blank. If this environment variable already exists, it is not modified by the Softimage Setup program.
