If older versions of the rayserver software are already installed and running, the Softimage Setup program prompts you to either replace (Update) the existing services with the latest version, or leave the existing rayserver service as is (Skip).
If you choose Update, Softimage Setup stops the existing services, removes them, and replaces them with the latest version. This is logged in the installation log file.
· If you choose Skip, mental ray may not be configured correctly, since the version of the rayserver services may not correspond to the version of mental ray.
Note: If you choose Skip, you must manually install the rayserver services.
The rayserver software is installed in the $SI_LOCATION/mental_ray/bin directory (IRIX and Linux) or Control Panel > Services (Windows).
