Modifying Files with the User Tools Application

User Tools is a utility that is part of the Softimage Setup program. User Tools can be accessed either during the installation process, or after installation (Start > Programs > Softimage Products > Product Name > Setup > User Tools, or $SI_LOCATION/3D/setup/usrtools). User Tools allows you to edit the following Softimage files from one common interface:

Windows

IRIX/Linux

setenv.bat

.softimage40

DatabaseSys.rsrc

DatabaseSys.rsrc

DatabaseDir.rsrc

DatabaseDir.rsrc

sisoft.bat (batch file used when starting SOFTIMAGE|3D from the command line)

N/A

.ray2hosts

.ray2hosts

You can also update user accounts (IRIX and Linux only) and view the installation log from the User Tools dialog box.

To edit configuration files:

Double-click on the file name to edit the contents of the file. User Tools always looks in the default location for the file. If the file is not located in the default location, a warning is displayed with the default location, and a browser opens to allow you to search for the file yourself.

Updating user profiles on IRIX and Linux consists of copying and/or modifying the following files to selected user accounts:

·      Copying the .softimage40 file from $SI_LOCATION (installation directory)

·      Creating a template .softimage40 file in the user account

·      Modifying the .auxchestrc file to add software shortcuts (adds pointers to the .title and .shortcuts files; IRIX only)

Note:  User profiles are not updated on Windows since the sisoft.bat file calls the setenv.bat script file that sets the required SOFTIMAGE|3D environments for any given user. On Windows, shortcuts needed to start the various software components are set for any users created by the operating system (All users\Start menu\Programs) by default.
