This box is for display purposes only. The default transformation level is zero, which is the lowest level for every node in the hierarchical tree. If you add one transformation level above the currently active solid(s), a "1" will appear in the transformation level box when you use the up button. If you add a transformation level below the solid, that level will become 0. The shifted level will become 1.
