Wacom/SGI Release Notes
Last Modified April 11, 1997

Installation Instructions:
--------------------------

The distribution directory is specific to the IRIX OS version. There are
separate distributions for IRIX 5.x, 6.2, 6.3 (O2) and 6.4.

* Read the license agreement; installation of the software implies
acceptance of the license terms and conditions.

* Plug the Wacom tablet into serial port 2 (this is the default serial port;
if your system is already configured for a Wacom tablet, then the
current serial port will be used).
See notes on serial connectors below.

* You must have root permission to install the driver:
        % su

* Cd to the appropriate release directory. E.g.,
        # cd /CDROM/IRIX-6.4

* Read the OS specific notes in that directory.

* Use swmgr to install the Wacom driver from the ./dist directory: E.g.,
        # swmgr -f ./dist
          Click "Custom Installation"
Select "wac_drv" (driver) from the package list
Select "wac_cp" (control panel) from the package list
          Click "Start"

* You must reboot after installing the new driver.

* After reboot, perform any optional or OS specific configuration.

* Use the Wacom control panel to configure and test the driver: E.g.,
        % wacom

SGI Serial connectors:
----------------------

SGI uses several different serial configurations on different models.
Detailed information on the SGI serial connectors may be found under
IRIX 6.3 or 6.4 by typing
        % man serial

Some SGI machines need special connectors for the Wacom serial cable:
Onyx, CHALLENGE:
Requires a DB9 gender-bender and converter, available in the Wacom
SGI kit.
Use of the powered peripheral ports is not supported.

Indigo, Indy, Indigo^2
Requires a DB9 to Din8 converter, available in the Wacom SGI kit.

O2, Octane (IP32, IP30):
The Wacom DB9 connector plugs into the O2 or Octane serial port
without any additional connector (no null modem, etc). Serial port 2
is nearest to the side of the machine, serial port 1 is nearer to the
center of the machine.
